Classes

At Mountain View Hospital, we want what is best for you and your baby throughout the pregnancy. That is why we offer free education and physical fitness classes. Your primary prenatal care and direction will come from your doctor. Our classes will augment what your physician has already explained to you. You can learn what to expect during pregnancy and prepare yourself for giving birth.

Prenatal Parenting Classes

The prenatal class is held every second Saturday of the month from 9AM to 3PM with a half hour break for lunch (it is a good idea to pack a lunch for the break).  Snacks and drinks are provided. There is no charge for this hands-on, interactive course. Partners are welcome to attend.

The class covers the last trimester; in particular, the things the expectant mother can do to help the delivery go as well as possible. We will discuss the stages of labor, the care given in the hospital, pain control options (epidural and IV pain medications), relaxation techniques, when to come to the hospital, delivery, infant care at delivery, breastfeeding, and postnatal care for mom and baby also are discussed.

A tour is offered at the end of the class. For any questions or concerns, please contact our Women’s Center department at (208)557-2729.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal YogaWe are now offering free weekly prenatal yoga classes every Thursday at 7PM in the Mountain View Hospital Health and Fitness Academy. Not only does this class help keep mothers stay in shape and relax, but it also helps many women prepare for labor by exercising the muscles used during child birth. In addition, yoga generally promotes the overall health of mother and baby. For any questions or concerns, please contact our Health and Fitness Academy at (208)557-2823.

Benefits of Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga is a multifaceted approach to exercise that encourages stretching, mental centering and focused breathing. Research suggests that prenatal yoga is safe and can have many benefits for pregnant women and their babies. For example, studies suggest that prenatal yoga can:

  • Improve sleep
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth
  • Decrease lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches and shortness of breath
  • Decrease the risk of preterm labor, pregnancy-induced hypertension and intrauterine growth restriction — a condition that slows a baby’s growth

Prenatal yoga can also help you meet and bond with other pregnant women and prepare for the stress of being a new parent.

Prenatal Water Aerobics

Prenatal Water AerobicsAnother way to remain physically active throughout your pregnancy is by attending our free weekly prenatal water aerobics classes. These classes are offered every Tuesday at 7:00PM in Mountain View Hospital Health and Fitness Academy’s swimming pool. For any questions or concerns, please contact our Health and Fitness Academy at (208)557-2823.

Water aerobics is especially applicable for pregnant women because it is very low impact on the body, but you are still able to get a good work out. Prenatal water aerobics help pregnant women:

  • Maintain cardiovascular endurance
  • Reduce pain
  • Lessen fatigue
  • Decrease edema and swelling
  • Improve circulation
  • Improve posture and balance
  • Relax
  • Be able to socialize and find support during your pregnancy
