Meet Our Trainers


Gretchen Houston - BS, NSCA-CPT, CYI, CF-L1, USA Cycling Coach LV1

Gretchen was born in 1973 in Salt Lake City, UT and graduated from high school in 1991 from Federal Way High School in Washington State. Gretchen was a competitive swimmer, water safety instructor and lifeguard throughout high school. After graduating High School, she moved to Idaho Falls, where she later became a mother to three beautiful children. Upon realizing her passion for physical fitness, Gretchen received her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from BYU-I in 2009. She enjoys teaching spinning and swim classes and enjoys hobbies such as cycling, running, hiking, skiing and strength training.

At the Health & Fitness Academy, Gretchen focuses specifically on weight management and overall fitness and loves working with people of all ages. She developed and coordinated the Lifestyle Fitness program, and loves helping with the quarterly challenges at Mountain View Hospital, in addition to personal training. Gretchen finds her inspiration by helping people reach their weight and fitness goals.


Jo Lawrence - AFFA, PN2, DPP-Lifestyle Coach

Jo Lawrence was born in 1970 in Phoenix, AZ and graduated from high school in 1988 from Westland High School in Columbus, Ohio where she was a competitive track and field athlete throughout her high school years.

Upon graduating, she moved to Rexburg, ID where she attended Ricks College where she worked in the PT department helping the college athletes prepare for games or events. Then later moved to Idaho Falls, where she attended Idaho State University, and later received her certifications in personal training, PN 1, various group fitness classes and in the interim working on her PN 2 which will be complete September 2016. Jo has the passion and motivation to help kids and families become and live a healthier lifestyle. She enjoys teaching any format of group fitness classes ranging from spinning to Body Pump to Pilates.

She also volunteers at the High School where she conditions the Skyline girls’ softball team. She is married and has 2 children, and a black lab/great Dane mix named Haas. Jo is also a competitive Pro figure bodybuilder and loves to help those attain any goal they set their mind to. At the Health & Fitness Academy, Jo focuses specifically on overall fitness and strength training where she trains people of all ages. She loves the outdoors, camping, anything fitness and spending time with her favorite people - her family.


Kyndra Purcell - BS

Kyndra Purcell was raised in Ephrata, WA. There she attended Ephrata High and was an avid athlete playing three Varsity Sports, Soccer, Basketball, and Softball. During her senior year of high school and continuing through college she was a Lifeguard and taught swimming lessons to all ages.

After graduating high school, she was accepting to BYU-Idaho. There she pursued a degree in Health Science. While she was attending Brigham Young University-Idaho, she was an active player in Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Walleyball, Football and Basketball. She also volunteered as a Head Coach for Ultimate Frisbee for five semesters and Volunteered in the Health and Wellness Center.

Her love of sports and being active drove her decision to pursue further education in Health but has continued because of her love for helping others and motivating them to reach their goals. Upon Graduating from BYU- Idaho with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science and an Emphasis in Health Promotion, received a job here at Health and Fitness Academy and is excited to share her passion for health and nutrition with others.

In her free time, Kyndra loves doing all types of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, caving, swimming, biking and running with her family and friends.


Sarah Klepich – BS Human Movement Science-Exercise Science

Sarah Klepich grew up in Idaho Falls, ID and graduated from Bonneville High School in 2011. During high school, she Lettered in Track and Field. Sarah also earned 4 Letters for Soccer. In Fall 2010, she was a Captain for the Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team and was selected as All-Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She participated in club soccer year-round, playing for Xtreme Soccer Club, Independent Futbol Klub, and guest-playing for Portneuf Valley Soccer Club.

In Fall 2011, Sarah attended Utah State University and studied Aviation. Upon recruitment to Laramie County Community College, she chased a soccer scholarship out to Wyoming. She played NJCAA DI Women’s Soccer for LCCC from 2012 to 2014. During her time at LCCC, her team was two-time Region Champions and nationally ranked 7th and 3rd upon competing in two consecutive National Tournaments. It was during her transition to Wyoming that she embraced her love for fitness and earned her Associate’s Degree in Exercise Science.

Sarah returned to Utah State to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and she earned a Minor in Chemistry. She competed on the USU Women’s Rugby Team for 3 years. In Spring 2015, she and her team competed in the National Seven’s Tournament and the following Fall, her Fifteen’s team was ranked 17th in the Nation.

Sarah has volunteered as a Soccer Coach for U10 Girls’ Infinity Soccer Club and as a Level 200 Certified Rugby Coach for the Cache Valley Rebels. She was also an off-season trainer for U14 Boys’ LaRoca Soccer Club.

Sarah enjoys doing many active things for fun! She likes pick-up rugby, strength training, running, rock climbing, hiking, hunting, camping, snowboarding, snowshoeing, shooting, horseback riding, and really anything outside!


Noah Bernal -  M.S. Applied Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Nutrition; B.S. Exercise Physiology; Certified Sports Nutritionist CISSN

Noah Bernal was born and raised on the island of Oahu in Waianae, Hawaii. In 2008 he graduated from Myron B. Thompson Academy where he was student body president and an avid athlete. As a youth he participated in the great aloha run, basketball, wrestling, and mixed martial arts (boxing, ju-jitsu and judo). After high school he lived in Fortaleza, Brazil for two years and he speaks fluent Portuguese.

In 2012 he attended Brigham Young University - Idaho and graduated in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Latin Languages. While in school he volunteered as a personal trainer at the campus fitness center where he also worked and became the intern and eventually the area director over wellness. He also participated in powerlifting, bodybuilding, and was a TA for a Sports Conditioning class. 

Upon graduating from BYU-Idaho he then obtained his master’s degree in Applied Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Nutrition from Concordia University with a 4.0 GPA and became a certified sports nutritionist through the International Society of Sports Nutrition in 2017. 

Although he misses the people, beaches, and aloha spirit of Hawaii he enjoys the quiet life Idaho Falls provides for his family. He and his wife have one son and enjoy spending time together going on walks to the playground to play soccer.

Personal Bio; after college I married an Active Duty US Navy member and moved to Bremerton, Washington. Being surrounded by the military community I knew that I wanted to give back to the men and women who serve our country. I first studied my National Academy of Sports Medicine Personal Trainer certification and quickly became a Fitness Specialist for the US Navy. During my time with the Navy I certified over 70 Sailors to be Command Fitness Leaders, gained many certifications to broaden my knowledge and spent three years training the All-Navy Wrestling Team to compete in Olympic Qualifying Trials. Personally I enjoy playing soccer, hiking and snowboarding. I am an avid Chicago Cubs fan but love chatting about any and all sports! Helping others to find health and happiness through fitness is my ultimate goal!
