Department Highlight

Education Department

The Education Department has more than doubled in size in the last several months. We are up to 6 full-time employees, 1 part-time/PRN, and 2 PRN instructors with one more full-time position on the way. Yes, we are expecting! J The education department coordinates information for the more than 1,300 employees of Mountain View and it’s only continuing to grow. We organize and teach at New Employee Orientation and orient employees to Bridge. Speaking of Bridge, we are in the home stretch. Get your Bridge done! Please! We work with individual departments and clinics to help meet the needs of staff as well as create and maintain employee files. We also coordinate student experiences and those who want to job shadow. We are also a training center for the American Heart Association and hold 2-4 AHA classes per week. (This is why Eric has no hair!) Kim has worked very hard to develop our CME program and this week is the week. We are lucky to have Dr. West presenting on Advanced Wound Care this Friday, April 26th at 7:00 am at the Training Center on Woodruff. Please join us!

We too are involved in several changes this year. We are working hard to transition our learning management system from Bridge to Healthstream and hope for a smooth transition. We are trying to get out of the office and have more interaction with staff and departments to see how we can help and support each area. Contrary to some theories, we are not the bad guys. We are excited for the many opportunities we have this year to make a difference and support this great organization. Hope you all have a fabulous week and enjoy a little warmer weather!

Message From Administration

Construction Update

  • The main entrance of the hospital has been permanently closed until the completion of the new hospital. The new entrance will provide a larger roundabout and covered walkway from the parking garage. We have included some architectural renderings below to show exactly what it will look like when completed. We know this will cause some hurdles for our patients and appreciate your continued commitment to patient care. We are honored with such an amazing team that puts us at the forefront of healthcare in Southeast Idaho.  
  • The Northwest entrance is currently under construction as part of our OR expansion. It is still accessible via a covered walkway. 
  • Temporary Lab site is complete. It is located above PT where Health and Fitness Academy used to be. 
  • The lab blood draw station is now set up in the Hillyard conference room across from the old coffee shop. 
  • Higher Grounds Coffee Shop now located in front of the surgical waiting room across from the stairs. 
  • Teton Grill is temporarily closed until the completion of the new hospital. 

Food Truck

For your convenience, we have arranged for a food truck to be on campus starting Tuesday, Feb 26th. They will return every Tuesday and Thursday.

The company is called "Order Up". Please stop by their truck to check out their menu.

The truck will be here from 11:00am – 2:00pm and it will set up in the round-a-bout in the front of the hospital which is currently blocked off.

The concert also features the triumphant debut of two Young Artists Competition Winners.

Mountain View Hospital (MVH) and Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH) are embarking on a transformational journey that will be critical to maintaining our status as a leader in healthcare. A new, modern EHR is necessary to support the continued growth of our services and improve information sharing and collaboration. We will use the EHR to transform from isolated systems to one consistent, integrated system that will support communication, improved efficiency, and reliability and decrease redundancies. Virtually every employee and provider who cares for our community will be part of this amazing journey. Our community, our friends and our families deserve the best from the moment they enter our doors through the continuum of their care. Parking for Synapse sessions:  Parking as always is a hot commodity! In order to best serve our patients and providers, please follow these instructions regarding parking for Synapse sessions you are attending. 

  • If you have sessions located at MVH main campus or the HR building, please park in the employee parking lot and ride the shuttle. The shuttle driver can drop you off at the HR building if you let them know that’s where you’re heading. 
  • Please park on the streets surrounding the meeting location whenever possible. If street parking is unavailable, please park as far away from the main entrance to the location as possible.

News From The Lab

The lab would like to make everyone aware of our new outpatient hours. We are trying to keep our outpatient draws between Mon-Fri 7am-7pm and Saturday/Sunday 8am-4pm. Any referring clinics please let your patients know that these are our updated hours. We will do what we can to accommodate patients who may not be aware of this change, however due to staffing and the lab being split between our outpatient draw area and the processing /functional lab we are very restricted and may not be able to meet our usual high standards of patient care if they are sent before or after this time.

Any samples that need to be run immediately/STAT need to be taken directly to the processing operational lab where the employee gym used to be. Please let a lab employee know that you are dropping them off to ensure they are aware of the immediate need.

News From Education

We are coming to crunch time for Annual Courses which are due April 30, 2019. Mandatory annual courses will be assigned in Bridge to all employees on January 1, 2019. Although, the pretest was popular it created a great deal of confusion with employees and unnecessary hours to determine completion.  Because of this, we have eliminated the pre-assessment and all employees will be required to complete the full course. The Annual courses will be embedded within programs that have a title that begins with  “ 2019 Annual”.The programs and courses will be assigned based on job status.                                                          

All annual courses will need to be completed by April 30.  The due date has been moved up just a bit because we are anticipating switching Learning Management Systems in May of 2019. You can access Bridge via two different avenues:

As always, the Education Department is willing and available to address any issues or concerns that you may have. Annual Course Update:
 
All PAs, NPs, RNs, LPNs, Rad Techs, CMAs, MAs, & RMAs have been assigned an additional annual course called Medication Administration Safety.  We apologize to all of you who thought you were finished with your annuals but due to an oversite, we had to assign this course for review.  Thank you for your understanding. 

An additional annual course has been assigned to everyone based off of compliance requirements and will be due May 1.  Thank you for your understanding.

Mountain View Hospital has achieved accreditation through the Utah Medical Association/ACCME to issue credits for our learning program for the Physicians.  

This is a huge deal as right now we are the only facility in Idaho Falls offering CME’s for provider learning.  Accreditation offers MVH the framework that motivates our physicians and other healthcare staff to achieve their full potential.  It also enables us to give useful tools to increase patient safety, creates social ties among learners and motivates a change of practice based on solid evidence.

We are excited to be able to offer this program and have several ways that we can have providers and staff participate.  They can attend live usually the 3rd Friday of every month at 7am where learners will also be served breakfast.  Next presentation is March 29th (fourth Friday) at 7am by Dr. Martha Buitrago on Antibiotic Stewardship.

They can also view on BlueJeans livestream.  They have to request a link ahead of time to log onto the presentation and download the free BlueJeans app.  This enables them to watch and even participate.  The third option is watching it on Bridge later.  All good options but must be accomplished by filling out an evaluation for credit.

News From Compliance

Closed Point of Dispensing Exercise

On Wednesday, April 24th, 2019, Mountain View Hospital will participate in a Regional Emergency Drill organized by Eastern Idaho Public Health. The drill is called a Medical Countermeasure Full Scale Exercise and it tests the ability of the Health Department to distribute lifesaving medications to the public through a mass prophylaxis plan. Mountain View Hospital will operate a Closed Point if Dispensing (Closed POD) center during the drill and will practice dispensing medications to a large portion of our staff. Once the Closed POD is established we will make announcements and request that all available personnel proceed to the dispensing area to receive the mock prescriptions. We will also be asking outside clinics to attempt to send staff possible. We anticipate the drill will run from 10:30 am to approximately 1:00 pm and our current staging area is designated as the old Health and Fitness Academy above the Physical Therapy clinic.


Eastern Idaho Public Health is working with various organizations within the community and establishing partnerships to develop innovative alternate dispensing options to enhance the dispensing capability. Medications are delivered to organizations such as private businesses, universities, or large organizations and these organizations, in turn, provide the medication to their designated population. Your Closed POD is an example of an alternate dispensing option.


Closed PODs play an important role in any situation where it is necessary to provide emergency medications to large groups of people. Traditional medical providers will likely be overwhelmed during a large-scale public health emergency. The Open PODs established to support the public will also be highly stressed in a situation where the entire population needs medication within a short time frame. Closed PODs will help relieve some of the pressure by reaching specific portions of the community more efficiently.


By operating a Closed POD, your staff and their family members will receive medications at your facility. This will provide your employees peace of mind during the public health emergency because they know that their employer, organization, or association has conducted the necessary coordination and planning prior to an event to provide an alternative method to protect them during an emergency. Employees will be able to return to their normal duties within your organization more quickly. Your organization will become more resilient during and after an emergency.


Eastern Idaho Public Health will work closely with your organization to ensure that you have the necessary information and resources to establish a Closed POD. As with all preparedness activities, the more we communicate and exercise our response plans now, the better we will respond if an emergency occurs.


Fire Extinguisher Meeting Location Change

Due to the recent changes in the admissions area, all staff bringing fire extinguishers to assist with a fire alarm will report to the end of the east hallway by the door to the mail room/loading dock. From this point, you will be directed to report to the location of the fire as required by the situation. If the alarm is in response to a fire drill you will be asked to sign into the drill log before returning work.

All employees should check their last paystub to ensure all their benefits that they have signed up for are being deducted accordingly.

Employees, if you miss a punch DO NOT clock in and out (double punch) at the end of your shift, please leave the missed punch as a missed punch.
• Use the Add Punch Change Request from your timecard
• Enter the correct date, Punch Details – In Day, Out Lunch, etc., Add the time, and reason.
• Click Add Request

Worked hours and On Call hours cannot be greater than 24 hours. On call hours would need to be adjusted for a total to equal 24 hours.

Timecard approval and requests can be done from any device that is supports the internet.

Managers, please DO NOT Mass Approve timecards - missed punches, double punches, and worked / on-call hours more than 24 hours for a day need to be addressed. The only exception to more than 24 hours a day would be Cash Outs for PTO.

W2 & 1095 hard copies and are in the process of being mailed.

If you would like to receive only an electronic copy of your W2 & 1095 in Paycom – Go to Payroll, Year-End Tax Forms, at the bottom of the screen you will see this message “You have elected to receive both electronic copies and paper copies of your Form W-2. To change your preference, click here”.

News About PolicyStat

The Mountain View Hospital Policy Manual is available electronically through the intranet home page. Each policy has been developed to ensure that MVH performs to the highest standards of service and healthcare, therefore it is essential that these guidelines are communicated throughout the organization. MVH employees will be assigned policies through the PolicyStat program where they will be required to read and acknowledge understanding of each allocated policy and its progressive updates.

To locate what policies are assigned to you:
1. Log into the "PolicyStat (Policy & Procedures Manual)" on the MVH intranet home page.
(An email notification will be sent from the program once the assignment has been made, you can follow that link.)

2. Refer to the "Home" tab and scroll down to the "Policies Awaiting Acknowledgment" section.

3. Click on the header to access your assigned policy documents.  Open each policy*, read through it and click the blue button on the bottom  I have read and understood this policy.

*If there are questions regarding information contained in any policy, please direct them first to your manager, then to the policy’s owner.
